Best known for helming the hard-hitting film Bad Boys, which helped launch Sean Penn's career, Rick Rosenthal is a producer/director with a career spanning over 35 years. Career highlights include: directing ABC’s ground-breaking pilot Life Goes On, being nominated for a Directors Guild of Canada award for Beauty and the Beast, serving as a Supervising Producer on the Emmy-winning Amazon series Transparent, being nominated for an Academy Award, Best Feature Documentary, for Cartel Land as well as being nominated for Best Documentary Short Open Heart. In 2003, Rosenthal launched Whitewater Films with a focus on mentoring and supporting emerging directors in the micro-budget world of independent filmmaking. More than 30 of Whitewater's films have launched at Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, SXSW, Tribeca, Berlin, AFI Fest and Deauville. Rosenthal graduated cum laude from Harvard with a degree in Visual and Environmental Studies. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his actress-turned-environmental-and-political activist wife Nancy Stephens, three adult children and three grandkids, along with a Golden Retriever rescue named Magill.
